On August 31, 2019, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark unveiled a statue of Bernhard Arp Sindberg at Memorial Park in Aarhus. Bernhard Arp Sindberg is from Aarhus and also known as Mr. Xin or Shining Buddha. He is known for his heroism during the Nanjing massacre of 1937-38. During that massacre, Sindberg saved thousands of Chinese people by providing them protection in a factory site. At that time, Sindberg, together with a German engineer, set up a small hospital for Chinese refugees, it is estimated that Bernhard Sindberg saved at least 6,000 people's lives during the massacre. |
