(China Plus) The latest film by the director Gao Xixi, "Advance Wave Upon Wave", was in the spotlight at the Shanghai International Film Festival this week ahead of its opening in cinemas on Friday.
"My film is based on a true story about the eight children in a family that sacrificed their lives on the battlefield," Gao told reporters on the red carpet at the opening of the festival. "We tried our best to restore those characters and their emotions as well as their relationship."
"Advance Wave Upon Wave" tells the story about a mother in Jiangxi Province who sent all eight of her sons to join the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1930s. All of them would end up being killed in battle.
The film was produced to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
