Japanese Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko are currently taking a rest in the resort town of Karuizawa in Nagano prefecture. The couple visited a settlement of postwar returnees in the historic Ohinata district in Karuizawa. The Ohinata district is where Japanese people who had lived in the northeast Chinese region formerly known as Manchuria resettled after returning to Japan following the end of World War II.
