On October 18, 2022, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender attended the opening ceremony of the 2022 Frankfurt Book Fair. Spain is the Guest of Honour and the theme country for the 2022 Frankfurt Book Fair. In the evening, the King and Queen hosted a reception in honor of the President of Germany and his wife in response to their hospitality during the state visit.
