On October 1, 2020, Dutch Queen Maxima opened the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month during a meeting held to mark the 40th anniversary of the Dutch Breast Cancer Association (Borstkankervereniging Nederland, BVN) at World Forum in The Hague. October is annually marked as Breast Cancer Awareness Month all over the world in order to raise awareness of the disease.
This year's theme is "You don't have breast cancer alone" to draw special attention to the role of those close to you and the impact the disease has on them. The Dutch Breast Cancer Association is a patient organization for everyone who has to deal with breast cancer, or has a hereditary or familial predisposition to breast cancer.
