On October 23, 2020, Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the exhibition 'Memling Now: Hans Memling in contemporary art' at the Museum of Sint-Janshospitaal in Bruges. The purpose of the visit was to support the cultural sector, which has been severely affected by the corona crisis in recent months.
The exhibition displays the paintings of Hans Memling, who is one of the most significant painters of the Burgundian Bruges genre. Hans Memling painted no less than four works for the medieval Sint-Janshospitaal, which are considered to be masterpieces amongst the artworks of the Flemish primitives. The world-renowned Ursula Shrine is one of them.
