On Friday October 16, a new official portrait of Queen Elizabeth taken by Chris Jackson at Windsor Castle in March 2019 was officialy released by the Canadian government in honour of her ties to the Commonwealth nation. The new portrait will hang in Canadian government buildings, schools, and legislatures around the country as well as Canadian Embassies and High Commissions abroad.
In the portrait, the Queen is wearing her Canadian insignia, as Sovereign of the Order of Canada and the Order of Military Merit. The Queen is also wearing her Modern Sapphire Tiara and George VI Sapphire Parure. Queen Elizabeth's headdress is the Belgian sapphire tiara, made from a 19th century sapphire necklace that once belonged to Princess Louise of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Princess Louise of Belgium).
The necklace and earrings are known as the "King George VI Victorian Suite". The suite was given to the Queen as a wedding gift in 1947 by her father, King George VI. The jewels are believed to date from the mid-19th century. The bracelet was added to the set in the 1960s.
