| On March 19, 2020, Former Emperor Akihito and Former Empress Michiko left the Imperial Palace. The former emperor and former Empress are scheduled to live in the Takanawa residence for up to a year and half, before moving into the Akasaka residence. Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on March 19, as they swap residences with the former emperor and empress. |
