On October 22, 2019, Emperor Naruhito took his place on the Chrysanthemum Throne as the 126th emperor of Japan with a ceremony held at the Imperial Palace. The ceremonies held in the day formalised Emperor Naruhito's ascension to Japan's Chrysanthemum Throne. The ceremonies began with a private ritual (sokui-no-rei), where the new emperor reported his proclamation to his ancestors. After the 30-minute ceremony, a congratulatory speech was given by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. |
