The enthronement ceremony for Japanese Emperor Naruhito took place at the Imperial Palace

On October 22, 2019, Emperor Naruhito took his place on the Chrysanthemum Throne as the 126th emperor of Japan with a ceremony held at the Imperial Palace. The ceremonies held in the day formalised Emperor Naruhito's ascension to Japan's Chrysanthemum Throne. The ceremonies began with a private ritual (sokui-no-rei), where the new emperor reported his proclamation to his ancestors. After the 30-minute ceremony, a congratulatory speech was given by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
