(China Plus) Benji, a reboot of the 1974 film of the same name, will open in Chinese cinemas on Dec 28th.
The story follows an orphaned puppy and two New Orleans school kids, Carter and Frankie, who strike up a friendship with the tenacious street dog. When the kids are kidnapped by robbers, Benji and his scruffy sidekick come to the rescue.
The movie stars young actor Gabriel Bateman who previously worked mainly in horror and thriller films, so the family film is a departure for him.
The original Benji movie made People Magazine's all-time "Top 20 Must-See Family Movies" list.
