Jay Chou returns to Singapore for bigger, better concert

(Toggle) Every time Mandopop king Jay Chou announces a concert in Singapore, it’s almost guaranteed that it’ll be the talk of the town. One-and-a-half years after his The Invincible pit stop in Singapore, he made his grand return yesterday (January 6) with his The Invincible 2 concert tour. It was also the first stop in his newest tour, and his first in 2018.

Even before stepping into the concert venue, the question on many’s minds was this: how would the concert be? There was no doubt that Jay himself would bring his A-game, as always, along with his talented team of dancers and musicians, but after a number of concerts held in the National Stadium that had less-than-stellar sound effects (one of them was his previous concert here), there was a thread of doubt that the audiences probably had as the 40,000 of us walked to our seats.

Once the lights dimmed and music started, however, those doubts were laid to rest as the organisers took notes from the previous gig and amped up the sound system. While the sound wasn’t perfect, we’d say it was a remarkable improvement from the previous show, and that was something that the sometimes-echoey sound didn’t change.
