‘Murder on the Orient Express’ beats out ‘Thor: Ragnarok’on first day in China


(Global Times) The newest adaptation of Agatha Christie's detective novel Murder on the Orient Express, Kenneth Branagh's latest crime drama of the same name became one of the hottest titles in Chinese mainland theaters after it debuted on Friday, the same day as the US.

With an opening box office of 32.76 million yuan ($4.93 million), Murder on the Orient Express topped the box-office chart Friday, beating Thor: Ragnarok by 1.2 million yuan. The film dropped to second place on Saturday earning 54.53 million yuan. It is estimated that the film's total opening weekend box office will reach 142 million yuan.
