Croatia: Bird's Eye View of Dubrovnik

One of the must do's when in Dubrovnik is the cable car ride to Srd Hill.

Dubrovnik, Croatia
Cable Car Dubrovnik Croatia

Apart from the spectacular panoramic views of the old city, the coast and beyond that made us go wow non-stop, the little jaunt gave us the opportunity to get away from the maddening crowds in Dubrovnik old town. The walled city is a very popular destination and by 09:00 it is already full of excited tourists and endless tour groups. I am not exaggerating.

Bubbles and I spent an afternoon here on Srd Hill lunching and enjoying the wonderful views. I will of course post our lovely lunch very soon. It was very nice to chill out here in peace and quiet, even for a few hours only, knowing that when we get back down we will be met and elbowed by the throngs of tourists.

WHAT TO DO ON SRD HILL:

  • There are hiking trails.
  • Take a Buggy Safari (rental).
  • Appreciate the views and the beauty of Dubrovnik and the surrounding landscape and mountains. Great opportunities here to take selfies or fly your drone!
  • Have lunch, dinner, coffee/tea and snacks at the Panorama Restaurant & Bar. This was really the main agenda of our visit here, our extended lazy lunch with a view.
  • Visit the Museum of Dubrovnik in Homeland War.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:

  • Tickets can be bought at the cable car office onsite or at one of the ticket shops.
  • Price is 130 Kuna for a return trip. We settled for this.
  • Some of the more active people have opted to buy the one-way trip (going up) and then they hiked back down on foot to the old city.
  • Most ticket shops accept the Euro. Some will give you change in Euro while others in the local currency, Kuna.
  • The cable car ride takes less than 5-minutes.
  • There is only 1 restaurant on the hill, the Panorama Restaurant & Bar. This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor (terrace) seating. Reserve in advance if you want the best tables with a direct view of Dubrovnik on the terrace, especially if you come here during the height of summer.
  • There is a souvenir shop.
  • The cable car is open daily but when the winds are too strong, they shut down the operation which happens regularly I heard. Thus to be sure, it is best to buy the tickets onsite when you are about to go up. Just FYI: The day before we went up the cable car was closed.

Here are a few close-up photos I took of Dubrovnik Old City:

Luza Square Dubrovnik, Croatia

Luza Square on Stradun is the main square of Dubrovnik. Our apartment room is located just across the church. Nothing could have been more central!
