On August 15, 2023, Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended a memorial service at Budokan Hall in Tokyo, which was held on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II. On this day 78 years ago, Japanese Emperor Hirohito announced to his people that Japan would surrender to the Allies in World War II.
