Benedikte was born on April 29, 1944 at Amalienborg Palace as the daughter of King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid, who was born as Princess of Sweden. Benedikte is the younger sister of the reigning Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II, and the older sister of Queen Anne-Marie of Greece.
