Big box office win expected for "Chinese Doctors"

(Xinhua) "Chinese Doctors," a film based on real-life events in China's battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, continues its robust ticket sales growth as the summer box office starts to heat up in China.

The tear-jerker continued its dominance of China's daily box office chart since its release four days ago, with its cumulative revenue surging past 465 million yuan (71.81 million U.S. dollars) early on Tuesday evening, data from box office tracker Maoyan show.

It is a cinematic portrayal of dedicated health professionals racing against the clock to save lives from coronavirus.

"Chinese Doctors" is expected to complete its China box office run with total earnings of more than 1.66 billion yuan, according to the newly-upgraded forecast by Maoyan.

Helmed by Andrew Lau Wai-Keung, the same director of the 2019 blockbuster "The Captain," the film sees Zhang Hanyu and Yuan Quan reprise the leading roles.
