On June 1, 2021, Queen Maxima attended the award ceremony of the Appeltjes van Oranje at Palace Noordeinde in The Hague. The prizes are given by The Oranje Fonds. The theme for 2021 is ‘Mental Strength’ and therefore the prizes went to three winners, who are committed to psychologically vulnerable people. The three winners of the ‘Appeltjes van Oranje’ received a bronze statuette and €15.000,-. The figurine was designed by Princess Beatrix. Queen Maxima presents the prizes to the winners annually.
