Crown Prince Akishino, Crown Princess Kiko, Princess Mako and Princess Kako visited the Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery in Chiyoda-Ku

Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko of Japan visited the Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery and attended the Autumn Memorial Service in Chiyoda-Ku, Tokyo. In the rain, the couple offered a silent prayer after worshipping. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier contains about 370,000 pillars of unknown soldiers and civilian remains.

The Autumn Memorial Service is held annually in the middle of October by the Memorial Foundation. About 1,000 attendees took part in the Memorial Service. The memorial service is held in honour of the spirits of the soldiers, military employees, and citizens who lost their lives in war. A highlight of this service is the worship and moment of silence led by an Imperial family member.
