The Countess of Wessex GCVO was sculpted live in front of an online audience in support of the Vision Foundation. The Countess of Wessex sat for a sculpture session with the artist Frances Segelman (also known as Lady Petchey) to create a piece designed for blind and partially-sighted people, which will provide an opportunity for them to know The Countess of Wessex’s likeness.
The two-hour sitting was live-streamed for supporters and guests of the charity Vision Foundation. The virtual event was co-hosted by the Vision Foundation’s Chief Executive, Olivia Curno, and the broadcaster and former ITV News Medical Correspondent, Sue Saville.
The event also featured Vision Foundation supporters Dr Amit Patel, who lost his sight at the age of 32 and BBC Radio 1 presenter Lucy Edwards who talked about some of the challenges facing blind and partially sighted people since coming out of lockdown.
The finished sculpture will be cast in bronze and unveiled next year, in celebration of the Vision Foundation's 100th anniversary in 2021. The Countess of Wessex has been patron of the Vision Foundation since 2003. The Countess of Wessex wore a new graphic print woven maxi dress from Diane Von Furstenberg.
