(Xinhua) "The Enchanting Phantom," a remake of the 1987 award-winning film "A Chinese Ghost Story," is set for online release on May 1, according to an announcement made via social media Wednesday.
Available on online streaming platform Tencent Video starting from May 1, the web film tells a love story between a female ghost and a scholar who tries to free her from eternal servitude to a demon.
Set in ancient times, it stars actress Eleanor Lee Kai Xin as the ghost who seduces men and absorbs their "life essence," which is referred to in Chinese fairy stories as a vital substance for humans to maintain control of their body, as an offering to a demon that controls her.
The original film "A Chinese Ghost Story," a winner of Golden Horse Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards, stars the late singer and actor Leslie Cheung and actress Joey Wong.
