On December 16, 2019, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and Grand Duke Henri attended the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge (also known as Battle of the Ardennes). The ceremony was attended by veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and high-level delegations from the countries that participated in the battle. The ceremony took place at the Mémorial du Mardasson in Bastogne. The battle was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II, and took place from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945. It was launched in eastern Belgium, northeast France, and Luxembourg towards the end of the war in Europe. |
