| Japan's former emperor Akihito celebrates his 86th birthday today. The former emperor continues to live in the Imperial Palace but has largely withdrawn from public life since his abdication on April 30, a day before his elder son Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne. On Dec. 23, Japanese Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, Princess Aiko, Crown Prince Fumihito, Crown Princess Kiko, Princess Mako, Princess Kako, Prince Hisahito and other members of the imperial family arrived the Imperial Palace, to attend an event celebrating former Emperor Akihito's 86th birthday. |
