(Toggle) A day after performing to a sold-out crowd at the National Stadium in Singapore, Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou jetted back to Taiwan, where he made a surprise appearance at the last of Taiwanese band Mayday’s Taoyuan concerts.
Once Jay appeared on stage, Mayday’s singer, Ashin led the fans and sang along to Jay’s song, ‘Far Away’, with Jay chuckling, “Why is everyone’s voice [gradually] getting softer?”
Without missing a beat, Ashin replied, “They’ve been well-trained by Mayday throughout the years, their ability to memorise song lyrics has already disappeared!”.
Quick-witted Jay then replied, “[Then], they’re just like me. You [Mayday] have quite a lot of teleprompters [on-stage],” with the members quipping that the teleprompters were actually used to surf the web instead of displaying lyrics.
Jay also brought laughter to the venue when he joked that he should form a band with the Mayday members named “Friday” (a combination of Mayday’s Chinese name and his surname) so that they can all sing from Monday to Friday, taking inspiration from the previous special guest, Singaporean singer JJ Lin, who had joked about joining the band as well.
At the end of the concert, Ashin said, “Other [singers] usually avoid inviting guests who are more popular, but in the past three days, we’ve had JJ Lin and Sandy Lam. After they left, everyone’s voice became softer; we thought we’d gone to someone else’s concert [by mistake]. But, [the members of] Mayday are big-hearted, if there’s a chance, we’ll find other special guests who are even more awe-inspiring,” promising an even better stage for their fans in the future.
