(THR) The trailer targeting the world's no. 2 movie market features a new bombing sequence and a few extra glimpses of Asian stars Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen.
Hoping to recruit China's millions of moviegoers to join the rebellion, Disney on Wednesday dropped a new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story targeting the country, the world's second-biggest film market.
The new trailer (below) shows a few extra glimpses of Hong Kong martial arts star Donnie Yen and Chinese director-actor Jiang Wen, who both have major supporting roles in Lucasfilm's first stand-alone film in the Star Wars saga. There's also fresh footage of a bombing mission involving Wen's character, the dreadlocks-sporting freelance assassin Baze Malbus.
Rogue One is set to hit Chinese theaters on Jan. 6, about three weeks after its release in North America. Fans and analysts will be watching to see if Disney can improve on the $125.4 million that Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned at the Chinese box office in January.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, the heist film is set before the events of the first film in the saga, A New Hope. It stars Felicity Jones as the head of a secret squad of Rebels looking to steal plans for the Death Star. The international cast also includes rising Brit star Riz Ahmed, Mexican actor Diego Luna, Denmark's Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker.
Rogue One premieres in Los Angeles on Saturday — with such elaborate festivities that Lucasfilm is shutting down roads in Hollywood for a full week — before its release across the U.S. on Dec. 16.
