Saketh to lead field in JVPGC Super 8 Tennis

Mumbai, November 30: Indian’s No.1 ranked men’s tennis player, Saketh Myneni will lead the field in the Rs 10.5 lakh prize money Invitation All-India Super 8 Men’s Tennis Championship, presented by Anil Sampat and Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club at their tennis courts from December 1 to 4.
This tournament is being sponsored by the family of Anil Sampat, a member of JVPGC and a regular tennis player who passed away suddenly last year. Sampat was passionate about tennis and also was a former general secretary of JVPGC, in whose memory his family has donated Rs 7.5 lakhs towards prize money.
Besides Saketh, the eight-player field will also include current National champion Sriram Balaji, former National champions Vishnu Vardhan and Mohit Mayur, besides Sanam Singh, Nitten Kirtane and Jayesh Pungaliya.
Mumbai will be represented by Aryan Goveas, who is also the youngest player in the field.
The eight players will divided into two groups, who will play a round robin league, with the top two players advancing to the semi-finals.
The singles winner stands to gain Rs 2 lakh, with the runner-up taking home Rs 1.50 lakh and the losing semi-finalists Rs 1 lakh each. The losing quarter-finalists also stand to make Rs 75,000 each.
The doubles winning pair will earn Rs 1 lakh, with the runner-up team gaining Rs 60,000 and the losing semi-finalists Rs 20,000 each.
Matches begin at 5.30 and entry to spectators is free. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Sunday, December 4.
